Everyone who interacts with Modern British art knows the value of a good library.
Collectors, dealers, academics, curators, authors, auctioneers, advisors and enthusiasts; we all understand not only how useful the books and catalogues on this period of art are but also how rewarding they can be to own.
Great to look at, filled with images and information, these volumes help us find a crucial reference or exhibition listing, remind us of a visit to an important exhibition, perhaps even answer a query from a friend or client. Having the answer literally ‘to hand’ offers something extra the virtual world cannot.
Working in the Modern British art market since 1990, Jessica and I have come to recognise how integral the publications on the field are to our understanding and enjoyment of it.
So, alongside our main business as J&J Rawlin Ltd., we are starting another chapter, Monograph, helping you find those books, catalogues and other ephemera which bring the period to life and help tell the stories and history of the art we all love.

Our first offering includes volumes from the library of an esteemed retired colleague, so there are a lot of the essential books and catalogues on significant artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Frank Auerbach, Henry Moore, Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon and Ben Nicholson, plus many others. As our existing clients, colleagues and friends, we are delighted to be able to give you the first view of the books we have. Take a look and see what you need to add to your own shelves! We will also aim to help with advice on building a focussed library in the Modern British field but if your book-buying days are over, maybe you have some volumes other collectors or professionals need? This is a new venture for us, so please bear with us whilst we evolve to make it what works best for you. We have lots of ideas of new ways to make your book-buying experience simpler and more focussed and we will be introducing them to our website over time.
