Provenance:
Private Collection, UK
Probably dating to circa 1978, this bowl is showing signs of what we, with the benefit of hindsight, know is to come in Henderson's work.
Honestly made, with no great effort taken to disguise the method of construction, or indeed to erase the artist's fingerprints in the clay, the form is timeless yet fresh and the use of mixed colours creates a surface that is endlessly fascinating.
The stoneware body is unusually rough, appearing to contain a certain portion of white clay fragments, possibly grogged porcelain, making a surface that is intensely tactile.
