The free approach to the surface here is so interesting. Henderson made the pot with pinched clay, thin and light, has then rubbed it down, brushed on a slip or even two, then rubbed that away, leaving traces in the scratches, and finally whipped a brush of slip around the top of the neck. This has flaked in firing to give it an incredibly aged feel.

A pot like this has the sense that it could easily have been dug up on a 1000yr BC site in the middle east! It is about the size of a large grapefruit in your hand and sits beautifully on a shelf, a quiet presence that rewards closer inspection.
