This is a pot that takes you by surprise - at first sight it appears rather dark but when you see the yellow slip coming through, then it comes to life. Place it on a window ledge in the sun and it positively glows and although it is not an especially large pot, it is not at all a silent piece. Like all of Henderson's early pinch construction pieces, it is light and thin and has beautiful balance.

It also has a strangely timeless quality; if you were handed this by an archeologist on a prehistoric dig site you would feel that was entirely appropriate, yet it actually dates from a crucila period of revolution in British ceramics when the boundaries, meaning and purpose of the medium were being re-evaluated in ways that are still relevant today.
